
It’s all coming full circle for Carrie Underwood.
The community announced on Thursday morning that the Grammy-winning country singer will join ABC’s” American Hero” as the newest member of its judging panel. The singer from” Before He Cheats” who won the song contest in 2005 will assist returning courts Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan in establishing a new musical star when the newest season airs next month.
” I went from anyone knowing my title to tens of millions of people watching the show”, the eight-time , Grammy winner , recalled in a social media video , revealing , her cast. ” I’m so glad of whatever I did on this present and what I’ve accomplished since,” says the host.
The former judge Katy Perry, who announced her departure in February, will take the seat left behind by the” American Idol” Season 4 winner and Country Music Hall of Fame inductee. The” Woman’s World” song broke the news on” Jimmy Kimmel Live”!, noting that she’s turning her focus again to her songs.
” I love’ Idol ‘ but much”, Perry said at the time. I’ve been a part of America’s soul, but I need to go outside and experience its own defeat.
Perry joined the show in 2018 after spending seven months alongside Richie and Bryan as judges. But her tenure did n’t always go down smoothly with” American Idol” fans. The” California Gurls” hitmaker faced criticism several times for her on-air actions, including charges that she , “mom-shamed” a participant. Last year, she even made headlines for her personal diatribe against , weapons violence , in America after a participant revealed he survived a school shooting.
Despite fans ‘ mixed reception, Perry said in February that she’s open to returning to” American Idol” after her new creative chapter.
Long-time host Ryan Seacrest will be back at the helm when” American Idol” returns for Season 23 ( its eighth at ABC ) next spring. The , global search , for candidates, dubbed” Hero Across America”, did begin Aug. 12 with interviews in Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi. ” Hero” interviews will come to California, among other says, on Aug. 19 and the show will host several opened calls from late August to mid-September.
” American Idol” crowned Abi Carter, a 21-year-old singer from Indio, as its latest victor in May.
