UW-Milwaukee suspends groups after saying Israel supporters ‘not welcome’ and to ‘stay tuned’

UWM will be constantly monitoring college as a result of these statements and any form of antisemitism.

Following an Instagram account, five pro-Palestinian organizations at the University of Milwaukee are already suspended and under inspection.

The president’s office explained that it was “alerted to an Instagram story that included intimidating language directed at members of the Jewish community and campus-based organizations that support Israel.”

The team’s official title is” UW-Milwaukee Popular University for Palestine”. In the spring, it organized an encampment, and its affiliated organizations have formerly demanded that the school remove Golda Meir and other alumni from the library.

The teams under expulsion are Students for Justice in Palestine, the Muslim Student Association, Kids for a Democrat Society, Young Democratic Socialists of America, and Un-Pac, according to Fox 6.

Instagram reports typically expire after 24 hours. Yet, other media outlets have reported on the responses.

” We will no longer restore murderous fanatics walking on our campus”, the party wrote, as reported by pro-Israel site Algemeiner. Any firm or person supporting Israel is not at UWM. This includes the regional extremist groups like as Hillel, Jewish Federation, etc”.

The social media post more stated:

We object to the existence of a uniformed radical movement on our campus. On the global level, we are witnessing Israel’s legality and global standing crumble. Any group that has n’t broken away from Israel will be treated as extremist offenders in the same way. Be tuned.

We will be closely monitoring school as a result as we strongly disagree with these statements and reject any kind of hatred. Every student, individual and group member may be safe on our campus”, the school stated in a July 20 statement. On July 19, it became aware of the article.

” UWM takes this article seriously and recognizes that the language in it, if acted upon, may undermine the health of the UWM community, particularly Israeli individuals and organizations”, the statement stated.

” Where talk is not protected by the First Amendment, UWM may handle it through correct processes, which could include student and student organization administrative methods”, the school stated. Although offensive or degrading language is frequently protected by law, it conflicts with the respect and manner of our community.

The group thanked the school for the media coverage and responded to the announcement.

Additionally, it accused the university of “participating in a Zionist strategy to silence opposition to genocide by falsely equating it with antisemitism.”

Then, on July 23, it reiterated its previous comments in the Instagram post.

” We wo n’t tolerate groups on our campus if they do n’t take a stand against this rogue regime.”
