The current trend purports to dispel the notion that being transgender is” misogynistic” when not wanting to date someone.
It seems there’s a new trend on social media — individuals declaring themselves” very right” which presumably means they “naturally” or “inherently” have no attachment to transgender people.
According to a recent paper published in the , Bulletin of Applied Transgender Studies, the term” super straight” was coined by a” white and Asian heterosexual” TikTok user to push back at the notion that not wanting to date transgender people is” transphobic”.
” I just date the same gender—women that are born women”, this person again said according to the report. ” So, you ca n’t say I’m transphobic now because that’s just my sexuality”.
Paper author Brandon Robinson ( pictured ), chair of UC Riverside’s Gender &, Sexuality Studies Department, looked at “dozens” of discussions on Reddit regarding the” super straight” concept and found” some” participants omitted” social and cultural factors” in conversations regarding biological sex.
According to Robinson, this and other behavior” create homosexuality as superior”, UC Riverside News , information.
According to one Facebook user who claimed that he had the same straight as a gay person to not be drawn to a lady to be attracted to a trans person, Robinson argued that the sentiment is based on research done in the 1800s into “scalp structure” and “eugenic sciences.”
In the paper, Robinson points out that direct people no longer is “easily rely on obvious homophobia and heteronormative assumptions that everyone is bisexual in order to argue their straightness” in the context of the current “historical moment” of improved “visibility and support for trans people.”

Because settlers saw people of color as having a wide range of sex and sexuality, Robinson claims that before the” coining” of heterosexuality, German” settlers and imperialists determined violence, murder, and invasion on indigenous communities and peoples in the World South.”
The Eurocentric gender binary is also created through the transatlantic slave trade, whereby Black people are perceived as being ungrounded and only seen as a slave, and whereby only white people are perceived as being either a man or a woman.
In the 19th and 20th centuries, heterosexuality become classified as an identity and cultural ideal alongside white supremacist sciences, such as craniometry or measurement of the cranium, and eugenics, a set of beliefs and practices undertaken to” improve” the human genetic makeup.
White colonizers, Robinson said, defined what and who was attractive, sexually desirable, and civilized. They also ignored social, cultural, and environmental factors that inadvertently shape a person.
It is no coincidence that the end of slavery and the beginning of Jim Crow coincide with the invention of heterosexuality and homosexuality, according to Robertson.
According to Robinson’s faculty page, their ( Robinson uses” they/them “pronouns ) upcoming work titled” Pleasurable Possibilities: Gender Liberation and Other Trans Desires “looks at the” dating, hookup, and sex lives” of transgender individuals” in order to theorize about trans joy, pleasure, and desire as ways to disrupt and dismantle the settler colonial institution of compulsory heterosexuality and the Eurocentric gender binary.”
