Australia raised its evil threat level from “possible” to “probable” on Monday, indicating a more than 50 % likelihood of an upstream attack being planned within the next year. Safety services ‘ recommendations, which cited a rise in extremist views across the nation, served as the basis for the judgement.
But, Anthony Albanese, the prime minister, claimed that an attack was not imminent.
Australia downgraded the risk levels to “possible” in 2022, following eight times at “probable”.
In a press conference, Albanese stated that” we have received the message that more Australians are embracing a more varied spectrum of serious ideas,” and that it is our duty to be vigilant.
The Middle East’s conflicts, especially the continuing conflict between Israel and Hamas, which started on October 7, were cited by director general of the Australian Security Intelligence Organization, Mike Burgess. ” The issue has fuelled problems, promoted demonstrations, undermined social cohesion and increased intolerance”, said Burgess.
Australia witnessed some harsh incidents in recent months,, some of which have been classified as extremism-motivated. A knife attack carried out in Sydney on an Assyrian church bishop and some of his supporters by American authorities in April was deemed to be a terrorist act fueled by alleged religious extremism.
