DUBAI: Iran executed a 34-year-old man accused of killing a security officer during unrest over the death of Kurdish-Iranian person Mahsa Amini, position press said, the first known protest-related implementation since a comparatively modest president took office.
Amini’s death in police custody on September 2022, which sparked decades of anti-government demonstrations in the biggest show of support for Shi’ite administrative authorities in recent memory.
In November 2022, Reza Rasaei joined the” Woman, Life, Freedom” demonstrations in his hometown of Sahneh, in the northern province of Kermanshah, during which security adviser Nader Bayrami was mortally stabbed.
Bayrami was the intelligence chief of Sahneh county’s wealthy Revolutionary Guards, according to the semi-official Tasnim media organization.
According to the right organization Hengaw, Rasaei, a Kurdish part of a spiritual majority, was accused of killing Bayrami and given a death sentence in October 2023. He was executed on Tuesday, the formal court media company Mizan reported.
According to Mizan, the Kermanshah regional prosecutor was quoted as saying,” After four court sessions, it was established that the fatality was the result of a knife belonging to Rasaei,” according to Mizan.
Rasaei was sentenced to death in” a grossly unfair test that relied on his driven statements obtained under torture,” according to Amnesty International’s site.
Masoud Pezeshkian, who won the presidency in July, promised to better defend the rights of women and minorities in his vote campaign in 2022 after getting explanation from the government about Amini’s passing.
