The issue that suggests President Xi Jinping’s long-running resentment toward the country’s millions of public servants led to a call on officials to stop playing a commonly played poker game because it hurts their jobs.
” In the past two decades, the” throwing egg “game has rapidly gone viral and occupied some people’s life”, the Beijing Youth Daily said in a commentary on Tuesday, referring to a sport that’s become a key way for entrepreneurs, financiers and state officials to connect.
According to the news, the fascination with the game “has become a poison shot” that corrupts cadres ‘ work practices in some places. The country was “facing an unprecedentedly large development prospect and growth stage,” the statement continued.” The answer is crystal clear, whether we grit our teeth and struggle hard or stay around the card table every day.”
Another criticism from the paper on Wednesday stated that excessive gaming was “extremely harmful.”
The commentary serves as a reminder that Xi frequently struggles to persuade lower-level leaders to implement his policies despite having become China’s most prominent leader in decades. In 2021, Xi demanded that government officials in all of China act more confidently when required in response to criticism for slow action in the face of a natural disaster and Covid-19 outbreak.
Additionally, there are indications that the anti-graft initiative Xi launched shortly after taking office in 2012 is grating on officials, making them choose to remain silent rather than take any action that might lead to problems. He criticized local officials for putting things off or misinterpreting the group’s instructions at a crucial financial meeting in December of last year.
Guandan, a card game that Beijing Youth Daily refers to, has four people. It has become the most recent method to tap into or enhance individual’s guanxi, a term used to describe the occasionally exclusive social circles, influence connections, and relationships that aid in the flow of commerce.
As in other states, cooperation you pave the way for business offers in China — and serve as a source of corruption.
