Federal officials are alleging that Iran was behind Merchant’s story.

According to Merchant, his plan reportedly included a number of criminal offences, including obtaining computer data or documents from a target’s home, organizing a protest, and murdering a politician or government official.
Officials say he even described clothing-related code words that he would use to guide them from abroad about what he wanted them to perform — “tee-shirt” may mean a protest, “flannel shirt” may mean stealing, and “fleece jacket” had mean” commit the act of the game” — a phrase prosecutors said meant killing someone.
According to court documents, he finally described possible execution scenarios, including those where the victim had a large amount of security nearby. According to authorities, he further stated that any such death may occur after Merchant left the United States, perhaps in soon August or early September.

In a media release announcing the murder-for-hire situation, FBI Director Christopher Wray claimed that the alleged plot was carried out by a Muslim regional with close ties to Iran and was straight out of the Egyptian playbook.
How “dangerous” was the story? Perhaps a traitor like Merchant might have been happy. Despite being able to find it nearly right away thanks to an unidentified confidential source, the FBI, Secret Service, and federal authorities were forced to take the threat seriously.

After Merchant made it abundantly clear that he wanted to employ hitmen to murder people, the unknown cause immediately contacted the FBI. The cause finally introduced Trader to two “hitmen” who were actual FBI agencies.  ,
In a later meeting, Merchant reportedly told the cause that his three-pronged tale involved stealing documents from a user’s house, planning a rally, and killing a politician or government official.

According to the complaint, Merchant then fabricated a potential assassination plot by moving objects around a table and napkin.

Iran will continue to try to murder Trump. They are relentless. But they’re also incredibly stupid. A rain of ruin from the air that Iran cannot imagine would be caused by the death of a former president or any senior American official.  ,
