DHAKA: Bangladesh’s recently appointed police commander on Wednesday offered an apology for the conduct of soldiers during dangerous protests and vowed a” fair and impartial” probe into the deaths of students, common folks and the police. Inspector General of Police Md. said,” Our earlier responsible officers were unable to fulfill their duties in the current protests,” as per the objectives of the countrymen. Mainul Islam said.
” Some unethical officers violated human rights by not using army in accordance with accepted standards.” This violence and death has continued because of them. I, as the chief of police, sorry on behalf of Bangladesh Police for that”, said the fresh IGP. Asked if they will be punished, he said,” Action will be taken as per officers rules”.
In days of confrontations between security forces and activists, more than 400 people died. Many of the 44 dead body that were brought to Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Monday were young gentlemen with almost all of them being shot.
Police reported that Sheikh Hasina fled after crowds attacked her friends, police officers, and police facilities. Following the violence that occurred against them, authorities organizations have started a hit. ” Many police officers have been injured, killed, and tortured because of some extremely ambitious authorities”, the IGP said, adding that he had asked police products to end their hit and return to work on Thursday.
In a change that comes shortly after Prez Muhammad Shahabuddin appointed Muhammad Yunus as the mind of an interim government, the authorities and the wealthy power Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have undergone significant leadership changes in an effort to restore discipline and keep social order.
RAB, which has previously been accused of torture and disappearances, has appointed AKM Shahidur Rhman as director general. RAB DG Md. Harun-Or-Rashid has been relieved and assigned as an additional IGP.
