Joe Biden, the president’s aide, spoke candidly and revealingly to CBS News ‘ Robert Costa after breaking his political silence and resigning from the 2024 presidential race.
Scheduled to weather this Sunday, the discussion, held at the White House, offers a view into Biden’s views on the forthcoming election and his part in the Democratic Party’s potential.
Biden addressed the potential election of former president Donald Trump and the repercussions of a Kamala Harris president in a significant change from his past restricted people demeanor. In response to the former mayor’s dire warnings about the repercussions of a reduction in the November election, Biden described Trump as a real threat to American politics.
” Trump means what he says”, Biden asserted,” All the stuff about,’ If we lose, there’ll been a disaster. It’ll have to be a stolen election ‘”, echoing Trump’s horrific rhetoric about a “bloodbath” if he shed.
Trump’s earlier feedback suggested a turbulent course if he did not win re-election, with concerns about potential for serious economic repercussions and questions about how American democracy will fare. ” If you’re listening, President Xi — and you and I are pals— but he understands the manner I deal. You’re going to not use American, you’re going to buy the trucks to us, no, those large, monster car manufacturing facilities you’re building in Mexico right then. You wo n’t be able to sell those cars if I win the election, Trump said at a rally in March 2024.” We’re going to put a 100 % tariff on every car that crosses the line,” he said.
” Now if I do n’t get elected, it’s going to be a bloodbath for the whole — that’s gonna be the least of it”, he added. ” It’s going to be a disaster for the region. That may make the most of it. But they’re not going to buy those vehicles. They’re building large businesses”. ” If this election is n’t won, I’m not sure that you’ll ever have another election in this country”, Trump added.
Biden also made a comment about his own political trip and the choice to leave the competition. He explained that his resignation was prompted by worries that his running for president may have a negative effect on their own efforts. ” I was concerned if I stayed in the contest, that would be the subject”, Biden explained. ” I thought it would be a true diversion”.
Despite his exit, Biden voiced strong support for Kamala Harris and her plan. He acknowledged doubts about the possible energy transition if Trump were to lose, but he also acknowledged uncertainty about Harris ‘ ability to lead. Harris and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz were “one hell of a group,” according to Biden, and they made a pledge to support Harris ‘ promotion initiatives wherever possible.
Biden acknowledged a particularly difficult time in his debate with Trump by denying any significant health issues to blame for his health and performance in the debate. ” I had a really, really bad day because I was sick”, he said. ” But I have no severe problem”.
In a more general sense, Biden outlined his first intentions to be a transitional president and acknowledged the difficulties he encountered in juggling his position with the rapidly changing political landscape.
