A security source reported on Wednesday that a European military base close to the Cologne airport has been closed off and that thousands of soldiers it are advised not to use the tap water as a result of an investigation into what might be a sabotage operation.
The waters on the foundation, which has 4, 300 soldiers and 1, 200 human employees, may have been contaminated after one forced their way into the premises, the supply added, confirming a statement by Spiegel publication.
The source claimed that the recommendation to avoid drinking tap water was taken as a precautionary measure while officers, military authorities, and the military intelligence company were looking into alleged sabotage against the European forces.
The ships of military aircraft that Chancellor Olaf Scholz and his officials use for vacation is housed at the bottom in Cologne-Wahn.
The basic had been sealed of, but a spokesperson for the Territorial Command in Berlin declined to provide more details. ” We have our reasons for taking this action, and we take the case seriously”, he said.
For reply, the military intelligence organization was unavailable right away. Police in Köln stated that they were unable to reply.
No one was able to access the Cologne base in violation of NATO’s previous warnings about a strategy of angry activities carried out by Moscow, including sabotage and cyberattacks, with no indication of who might have gotten in the way.
The American military ally saw a pattern change in June, according to NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg, and new attacks were the result of Soviet intelligence becoming more active.
Some countries such as Poland, Germany, Britain and the Czech Republic have reported incidents in the past month.
