Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the father of Bangladesh’s first president and prime minister Sheikh Hasina, was attacked by a crowd on Thursday as they attempted to enter the Bangabandhu Memorial Museum, where he and the majority of his family were killed by a cabal of military officers on August 15, 1975.
The assailants, who were armed with sticks, had been spotted blocking advertising from taking photos and videos and had taken jobs on roads close to the house since the dawn. Individuals who were reportedly seen checking the ID cards of passing people’s cards and keeping those they thought were dubious among the crowd were among the group. Even the legendaries Abdul Kader Siddique, who was hailed as the” Tiger of Tangail and Bangabir” for his daring attacks on the Pakistani army, were spared by the infamous terrorist who perished in the Liberation War of 1971. ” I went to pay tribute with bouquets at around 7 am but was unable to do so… I was inside the vehicle. Some threw rocks. The vehicle was struck with stones. Therefore I left”, said Siddique.
Sheikh Hasina’s son, Sajeeb Wazed Joy, had appealed to people via Twitter to come to pay their respects to the government’s founding father by visiting the museum. He urged people to visit Road No. 32 and position plants. ” This is not a social issue. This is to demonstrate our gratitude for our freedom and the person who granted it to us. Without# Bangabandhu there would be no# Bangladesh. Joy Bangla, Joy Bangabandhu”, he said. Afterwards, Joy later claimed that it was a pity that people were beaten and prevented from observing Mujibur Rahman. He wrote on Fb,” My condolences to all those who were hurt in the stabbings, including Kader Siddique,” adding that he “would except to thank the large crowds that came out to observe the dark day.”
A sit-in and candlelight vigil on Wednesday in front of Mujibur Rahman’s residence turned violent, and the organizers, including national award-winning artist Rokeya Prachi, were actually assaulted.
In addition, former prime minister Khaleda Zia’s BNP party held sit-in rallies on Thursday throughout the nation demanding the arrest and trial of Hasina and her partners for the current violence in the country.
Former cabinet minister Ali Imam Majumder, past energy minister Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan, and scholar Wahiduddin Muhammad have also been invited to take the oath of office as members of the time government on Friday.
