On Thursday, 24 state attorneys general filed an amicus brief asking the U. S. Supreme Court to safeguard national swing-state Arizona’s vote method from international influence. They requested a stay of a 9th Circuit Court of Appeals determination from August 2. According to a previous article in The Federalist, that ruling stopped the enforcement of 2022 state law requirements for individuals to provide documentary proof of citizenship ( DPOC ) when registering through state voter registration forms.

The Arizona Republican Party wrote on X that” The Constitution gives says the power to set voting requirements, and AZ is leading the charge to guarantee ONLY CITIZENS voting in our votes.” ” This situation has the potential to stop non-citizens from voting for good, which ought to have been the case from the beginning,” he said.

The Republican National Committee and the GOP leadership in Arizona filed an amicus in support of an urgent request for a keep last week that asked the SCOTUS to preserve the state’s DPOC law. Additionally, the parties requested that Arizona grant the state’s high court permission to require quite proof when casting ballots electronically or in national elections.

The lawyers general small concludes that while Amici States support Candidates in full, they concentrate on the district court’s decision that the National Voter Registration Act preempts Arizona’s election integrity laws in regards to mail-in election and presidential election ballot. That judgment threatens the ability of the States to investigate voter fraud and their constitutional right to define their social areas. It is false, and this Court may award the requested relief”.

On Thursday, The Honest Elections Project and Restoring Integrity and Trust in Elections ( RITE ) filed separate briefs asking the SCOTUS to grant a stay of the 9th Circuit’s decision. The former group claimed that the lower court’s decision “poses unique harm to Arizona’s unique considerable interest in protecting the integrity of its votes.”

The Pagan small says that” Arizona has long provided opportunities for voters to cast a vote by email, with safeguards to ensure that the absent vote method maintains its integrity.” One of those protection is that candidates must provide supporting documentation of citizenship before sending a message ballot. Electoral candidates who have effectively registered can still cast ballot in person, either on Election Day or during Arizona’s good early voting period.

Justice Elena Kagan is the” circuit justice” &nbsp, tasked&nbsp, with handling emergency stay applications from western states. She may “grant or reject the application on her own,” according to SCOTUSblog, or she can refer it to the whole court for the justices to decide. Finally, at least five justices would need to give a stay’s release.
