As the country’s GOP establishment continues to support Donald Trump, former Republican congressman Barbara Comstock supported Kamala Harris ‘ presidential campaign on Sunday, aligning with another former Virginia agent in supporting her party.
Comstock expressed her support for Harris as a result of Trump’s refusal to acknowledge his defeat and challenges against politics.
On CNN, Comstock explained her choice:” After Jan 6, after Donald Trump has refused for four decades to recognize that he lost, and his threats against politics, I think it’s important to turn the page. That’s why I will be voting for the evil president”.
Her endorsement comes in the same vein as Denver Riggleman’s past support for Trump, who formerly supported Trump but presently backs Harris, citing the insurrection of January 6 as a significant factor.
Riggleman and Comstock both shared worries about the region’s political principles. Comstock represented Virginia’s 10th Congressional District from 2015 to 2019.
She had a row with Trump while in office, calling on him to withdraw from the 2016 presidential contest following the release of the Access Hollywood interview.
Trump bragged about groping people on this video. Comstock even objected to Trump’s plan to halt the 2018 state closure and the Affordable Care Act.
She lost her re-election campaign in 2018, with her followers blaming Trump’s disapproval in her city and her ability to distance herself from him within her bash for their losses.
The Virginia GOP as a whole continues to support Trump despite the positions of Comstock and Riggleman. At a rally held in Chesapeake in June, Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin pledged to support Trump and help him get the state’s forthcoming election.
But, Youngkin has refrained from addressing some of Trump’s more controversial ideas, such as scrapping the US Department of Education and stopping scholar loan forgiveness.
