On Monday, US President Joe Biden will deliver a melancholy farewell address at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, passing the torch to Kamala Harris as the party’s candidate for the November election.
Less than a month after Harris ‘ stunning rise and his stunning removal, Biden can anticipate receiving a soldier’s sendoff from many of the same people who pushed him out because of concerns about his time.
The 81-year-old is expected to say that Harris, America’s first women, Black and South Asian vice president, is the best people to finish the job he started of protecting American democracy from Democratic enemy Donald Trump.
In a symbolic gesture intended to demonstrate Democratic unity over his inheritance, Harris will quickly seem with her employer on phase for his prime-time speech.
One comedown from his time in office, yet, is a huge organized rally in Chicago against the Biden-Harris president’s support for Israel’s warfare against Hamas in Gaza.
After spending the weekend at the Camp David political retreat in rural Maryland fine-tuning his address with top aides, Biden claimed on Sunday that he felt “good, true good” about his speech.
Warm-up action
Biden, a lame-duck for a single-term leader, will now be well aware that Harris ‘ ability to win over Trump will be a factor in his future and that many will hold him accountable for holding him a cling for so long.
First Lady Jill Biden, 73, a steadfast supporter of her father who supported him throughout the final phases of his terrible judgement on July 21, may also get to the stage in Chicago.
The aging president has watched Harris hunt down Trump in the polls and motivate voters in a way he always managed while he was a member, and there will undoubtedly become mixed emotions for him.
Biden now finds himself serving as Harris ‘ warm-up work for her scheduled Thursday statement in a time that he might have previously reserved for him.
He wo n’t be attending her lavish dinner and instead will leave right away after his speech to kick off a six-day vacation in California while the conference is continuing without him.
Biden will also have the assurance of a warm welcome from Democrats in Chicago as he approaches the end of his five-decade social career.
” I’m nostalgic”, said LaurieBeth Hager, a state representative from North Dakota in Chicago for the convention, hailing Biden as a “great president”.
Kleenexes that are “packed”
” I’ll have Kleenexes packed along with me soon, but I also am amazed at the confidence, political courage it took for him to make this decision”.
Biden is still fondly remembered by his party as the candidate who defeated Donald Trump in the election of 2020 and then helped save America from the stress of the Trump administration’s January 6th, 2021, Capitol assault and Covid pandemie.
And while Biden’s primary fervor to stay in the competition despite a subpar conversation effectiveness against Trump in June smacked of confidence, there is widespread applause for his in the end sacrifice.
Since Biden stepped down, Harris has turned the White House culture on its head by reaching out to younger, female, and Black voters who had abandoned a fight between two older men.
Former president Trump, meanwhile, has been sent into a tailspin by what he calls the” coup” by Democrats.
After escaping an assassination test and making a triumph, ear-bandaged look at the Democratic convention in Milwaukee just over a fortnight before, he appeared to be on a run for it.
Despite being urged to concentrate by leading Republicans, he has since struggled to adjust his plan to deal with Harris, turning instead to specific insults and wandering speeches.
While Democrats meet in Chicago, Trump may be crisscrossing the state, with demonstrations scheduled in the battleground state of Pennsylvania, Michigan, North Carolina and Arizona through the year.
