According to a legitimate scholar,” the range of unfair scholarships collectively discriminates against about everyone.”
The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign has 42 “illegal” fellowships that discriminate against candidates on the basis of race, gender, or both, a federal complaint alleges.
The Legal Insurrection Foundation’s Equal Protection Project filed the complaint with the Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights immediately.
In infraction of Title IX, it lists 19 scholarships that discriminate based on sexual orientation.
” Eight scholarships are offered specifically to feminine students, eight express a desire for sexual students, two are offered specifically to female students, and one states a preference for adult students”, the complaint states.
Another 19 fellowships discriminate based on race, in contravention of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, according to the national complaint.
The problem says:
These 19 scholarships are all offered entirely or with a reported preference for different groups based on race, color, or regional origin including students from underrepresented populations, students who are generally underrepresented, students from minority groups, and students from various cultural groups or regional origins including Czech, Ukrainian, Chinese, Latina/Latino, Iranian.
Another four, according to the problem, discriminate on the grounds of race and gender.
The 2023 Supreme Court decision banning racial behavior makes clear the scholarships are improper, according to William Jacobson, a law professor at Cornell University.
” After the Supreme Court’s 2023 selection in Kids For Fair Admission, it is obvious that discriminating on the basis of culture to reach diversification is not lawful”, Jacobson, the leader of the Equal Protection Project, told The College Fix via a press statement. According to Chief Justice Roberts,” [e]liminating racial discrimination means eliminating all of it,” according to the majority opinion.
According to Professor Jacobson,” the vast number of discriminatory scholarships reflects a pervasive and systemic failure to comply with constitutional and statutory requirements at UIUC, which warrants an office for civil rights expedited investigation.”
” The eligibility requirements for these scholarships are openly discriminatory”, Jacobson also said. ” Regardless of the purpose of the discrimination, it is wrong and unlawful”.
The civil rights activist claimed that adding more racism and sexism to the educational system through discriminatory college scholarships is” no good for society.”
He wants the university to develop a “remedial plan to compensate students who have been denied these scholarships due to discrimination.”
Not just blue state universities that provide scholarships based on race and sex.
The University of Alabama offers at least$ 200K in scholarships based on race or sex, a May , College Fix analysis found.
