Universities should develop climate curriculum, think tank says

This is Planet Ed’s strategy to “promote weather solutions” for the higher education sector.

Colleges may grow” weather knowledge” strategies in order to save the world, a think tank argues.

This is Planet Ed, an action of the Aspen Institute that is devoted to addressing climate change in education, released its fresh” Higher Ed Climate Action Plan” this month.

” People and communities across our country and the world are being harmed by the effects of climate change,” according to the statement. These results will only increase in the years to come”, the” Higher Ed Climate Action Plan “states.

” In this motion program, we identify the option for the higher education sector to improve climate solutions, adapt to our changing climate, and prepare students for success in a sustainable, resilient, and simply society”, the program reads.

This is Planet Ed states it hopes for” America’s 4, 000 institutions of higher knowledge” to “engage, plan, and assist the 19 million students enrolled in colleges and universities for victory in a changing environment and business”.

It goes on to suggest that universities apply” a plan for equal climate action”,” support all students to ensure success in a changing climate”, “engage and support communities…in advancing important solutions”, “develop solutions to reduce carbon pollution”, and “model solutions to spur large, equal climate action”.

Some colleges have now begun implementing” environment education” into their curricula. Institutions like Arizona State University and the University of California San Diego may require students to take climate change training beginning this academic time. However, Columbia, Harvard, and Stanford have new institutions focused solely on educating about weather change, according to Climate Telegram.

Different institutions have established specific positions to advance” weather education.” According to a report from The College Fix, the University of Pennsylvania has created a vice provost position to” help Penn’s management in addressing the weather crisis.”

According to Inside Higher Ed, conservation officers at the State University of New York system are charged with” the creation of a systemwide climate action and sustainability program that integrates labor growth, study, and academic programming.”

Western Michigan University adopted a different strategy by launching an “emergency” climate change campaign for the semester to inspire students to take action during the” crisis.” As previously reported by The College Fix, the school held workshops and seminars titled” Using Mindfulness to Ease Climate Anxiety” and” Indigenous Approaches to Climate Action in Relationship to Mother Earth.”
