California public universities ban encampments, masks

California universities outlaw encampments to prevent creating a “hostile culture.”

Under new regulations, student protesters at public colleges in California will no longer be able to construct tent cities or hide their faces behind masks.

California State University introduced its new scheme Thursday, banning camps, over demonstrations, and “unauthorized walls”, according to EdSource.

According to CSU director Hazel Kelly,” individuals who attempt to start an camp may become disciplined or sanctioned.”

” Campus leaders and their designated leaders will carry out this restriction and take appropriate actions to stop camps, including giving clear notice to those in violation that they must stop their camp activities right away,” according to Kelly.

She likewise called camps “disruptive” and said they” may produce a hostile environment for some society people”, EdSource reported.

In a text to UC ministers on Monday, University of California President Michael Drake stated that all schools within the Cal State University system has outlaw “unauthorized constructions” and camps.

In addition, they may ban “anything that restricts activity on school, which could include protests that wall sidewalks and roadways or refuse access by everyone on school to UC facilities”, EdSource reported.

By providing greater quality and consistency in our guidelines and application, Drake stated in the letter,” I hope the way provided in this letter will help you attain an inclusive and loving environment at our schools that protects and facilitates free expression.”

Both methods even asked school officials to ban the wearing of face masks with the purpose to” suppress one’s identity”, according to&nbsp, EdSource.

Drake adheres to the position budget’s new necessity for stronger enforcement of protest policies on all UC campuses. Politicians have tied$ 25 million in revenue to UC’s adherence, requiring Drake to provide a review on the ideas to the Senate by Oct. 1 before the money are released, according to EdSource.

At Cal State and UC schools, protests have erupted recently over the Israel-Hamas fight. As recently reported by The College Fix, anti-Israel protest at California State University stormed and blocked off a tower in June to prevent workers from leaving the university. The protest assaulted four persons, smashed panels, spray painted graffiti, and destroyed business supplies.

The University of California funded opposition security and recovery with$ 29 million in the springtime quarter. The college had to get more protection, brush graffiti from structures, remove debris from protesters ‘ encampments, and eliminate rodents and cockroaches.

The” No Tax Dollars for College Encampments Act,” which was introduced by House Republicans earlier this month, would require colleges to publicly disclose their protest response plans as a state of federal approval, as previously reported by The College Fix.
