EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — As the Democratic National Convention ( DNC ) comes to an end, U. S. Rep. Veronica Escobar, D-Texas, took the stage on Wednesday, Aug. 21 in Chicago, to address key issues such as immigration and border security.
Escobar instantly criticized former US president Donald Trump’s handling of boundary issues.
” Miss what the newscasters say.” I’m from that”, Escobar said. ” When it comes to the frontier, hear me when I say you know nothing, Donald Trump”, Escobar said.  ,
In her three-minute speech, Escobar emphasized the difficulties faced by border towns like El Paso and argued that a” Harris” administration would have a more effective approach to the border.
” Democrats have options. With Kamala Harris as leader, we can live up to the promise of America. We can develop legitimate processes to emigration, and we can secure our frontiers, and we can handle with respect those who seek a better prospect within them”, Escobar said.
In reply, Escobar’s Democratic opponent Irene Armendariz Jackson, who is running against Escobar for Congress in District 16, shared her thoughts on Escobar’s remarks and the current political landscape.
El Pasoans have faced difficulties under the Democratic administration, according to Armendariz Jackson, who reiterated that voters have a choice to make in the future November general election.
” El Paso is never a Democrat area. El Paso is a town without votes. Less than 4 % of El Paso voters, according to Armendariz Jackson. ” As El Pasoans, we have to make a decision. Do we want to continue on this path that has made us impoverished? Or do we want to walk up and say no more”?
She criticized the Democratic Party’s long-standing influence on El Paso and its effects on income and employment opportunities. She emphasized the need for shift.
Because it has divided my home for many, many times at once, Armendariz Jackson said,” This illegal immigration conflict and crisis that we’re experiencing at the border is quite personal to me.”
Over their individual sessions to El Paso, both Harris and Trump have come under scrutiny. Trump left the city with an unpaid receipt of roughly$ 570, 000 from his 2019 campaign march. However, Harris has been criticized for visiting the borders only when since becoming vice president.
The DNC concludes Thursday, August 22, with Vice President Harris expected to publicly recognize her group’s nomination for president.
