
LAGOS: More than a fortnight after their violence, 20 Nigerian medical students who had been abducted while attending a convention were released, according to police, who said on Saturday.
Gunmen seized the 20 on August 15 as they travelled to a convention in Benue position, in the centre of the country, and afterwards demanded a compensation, authorities said.
State police confirmed the launch of the 20 students from the University of Maiduguri and Jos in a statement from the state authorities.
Although no information on how the kids were freed, the nation’s police captain had this week set up a “tactical club” in Benue as part of attempts to locate the most recent victims of a growing wave of abductions in Africa’s most populous nation.
