Before the earth knew him as the 45th President of the United States, Donald Trump, then a 34-year-old business, was asked a question that seemed to portend his upcoming:” Would you like to become the President of the United States”? His answer, which was given during a recent resumption meeting, provides a view into the mindset of a man who may eventually assume the position he appeared reluctant to take on.
” I really do n’t believe I would”, Trump responded, a sentiment that now seems ironic as he prepares to run for a second term on the Republican ticket. However, he did n’t dismiss the importance of the role. ” I would like to see somebody as President who could do the job, and there are very capable people in this country”, he added, hinting at his desire for strong leadership, even if he did n’t envision himself in that position.
The interviewer went even further, noting that most worthy men avoided politics out of fear of the demands and scrutiny that accompany it. Trump reaffirmed his problem for the caliber of the candidates for office. He said,” The most capable people are not necessarily running for political office, which is a very sad commentary on the country.” He noted that these people frequently avoid politics despite their potential success in leading significant corporations.
When asked why he would n’t consider running for office himself, Trump’s response was,” Because I think it’s a very mean life. I do like and I had dedicate my life to this country, but I see it as being a indicate life”, he said.
Trump recognised the harsh experiences of politicians, acknowledging that strong opinions, particularly those that might be controversial but right, may hinder one’s chances of success. He noted that” someone with no great mind but a large teeth” might have a better chance of winning the election, underscoring what he perceived as the simplistic nature of the political process.
In a charge for a second term, Trump will now face off against Democrat nominee and Vice President Kamala Harris.
