Previous Republican Rep.  , George Santos , pleaded guilty to , 23 works of a surpassing federal prosecution on Monday, putting an end to the famous fabulist’s legal battles.
The plea deal, which came three days before his trial was set to begin in Central Islip Federal Court, concerned claims of wire fraud, money laundering, aggravated identity fraud and making false statements to the , Federal Election Commission.
Less than a month after Santos was sworn into his undergraduate term as a , U. S.  , Representative, he was  , booted from , Congress , in December in a traditional 311-114 voting.
Following an ethics investigation that revealed “overwhelming information” that he had broken the law and misused his public position for his own gain, the lawyer filed the case.
The , Long Island , and Queens MAGA senator became the first part of , Congress , to be ousted without being convicted of a violence since the Civil War.
The charges soon followed. Santos was  , initially indicted on 13 national crimes , in , May 2023. The 23-count replacing prosecution came that October.
Even in October,  , his campaign director pleaded guilty , to one of the methods alleged by the state.
Nancy Marks  , admitted she conspired with Santos to falsify , Federal Election Commission  , files to make it look like he got much donor income to qualify for economic and logistics support from an unknown nationwide campaign committee.
Another construction she confessed was a bogus$ 500, 000 product from Santos to his plan, according to court documents. He really had less than$ 8, 000 in his private firm account at the time of the fraudulent deal, prosecutors allege.
Federal prosecutors charged at least$ 44, 800 in unauthorized credit card charges against one campaign contributor, including a single$ 12, 000 charge that primarily went into Santos ‘ personal bank account.
In July, Santos , sought to reject three counts of aggravated identity theft. His legal team argued that Santos ‘ campaign had only overcharged donors ‘ credit cards and did not steal anyone’s identity.
Federal prosecutors claimed that the Santos campaign had illegally listed the charged funds under new names, including his own home and various associates, which would have been considered identity theft.
Santos lied about almost every aspect of his life during his election campaign in 2022. When in office, he ignored calling for his departure, insisting he had not done anything illegal.
The ex-legislator had likewise falsely claimed his mother was working in the , World Trade Center , on 9/11 and said that he is the son of Holocaust immigrants. He admitted to lying about working at Citigroup and , Goldman Sachs , and about the schools he claimed to enter.
