Pavel Durov, the founder and CEO of Telegram, was arrested now at Le Bourget Airport near Paris, following his returning from Azerbaijan. Durov was detained after leaving his private flight, according to European media, with the imprisonment being connected to an exploration into Telegram’s reported failure to average material, which authorities claim has allowed criminal activity to flourish on the system.
Elon Musk, the American tech mogul and owner of X (formerly Twitter), quickly reacted to the news on his social media platform. Musk posted a Grok message from his official X account, sarcastically captioning it, “Check out this ad for the First Amendment. It is very convincing.” The post detailed Durov’s arrest, highlighting the ongoing investigation into Telegram’s moderation practices.
Musk did n’t stop there. He followed up by resharing a blog from the bill OSINTdefender, adding his own message:” POV: It’s 2030 in Europe and you’re being executed for liking a meme”. This statement made a point about the fate of free speech in Europe, implying that even the most innocent website activities could have disastrous effects.
Durov, a double resident of France and the United Arab Emirates, is now residing in Dubai. The 39-year-old businessman, who fled Russia in 2014 after refusing to judge opposition parties on his VKontakte system, has continuously positioned Telegram as a champion of private and free speech.
With his notes, Musk’s remarks have rekindled the debate over the balance between free speech and glad restraint, drawing attention to what he perceives as a growing threat to personal privileges in Europe.
