On a flight from Chicago to Newark, a United Airlines flight attendant chose to wear a Israeli flag button and keffiyeh, which has sparked a heated debate, provoking criticism from pro-Israel supporters. Discussions about what symbols may be permitted for aircraft employees on duty have gotten more heated since the event.
The conflict started when a customer on Tuesday’s trip from Chicago O’Hare to Newark spotted the trip attendant’s Arab flags and alerted the Israeli antisemitism group StopAntisemitism. The team’s leader, Liora Rez, condemned United Airlines for permitting what she views as socially charged characters in a place meant to remain balanced, reported the Independent.
Rez was quoted as saying,” Stop Antisemitism is alarmed by the rising trend of US airline workers displaying Palestinian colors and keffiyehs while on duty.” ” There are no planes to Palestine. Social positions are appropriate off the time. In what should be a negative environment, airlines must make sure that people are n’t confronted with contentious images.
United Airlines stands by its policy
Despite the reaction, United Airlines has defended its standard coverage. Flight attendants are permitted to wear flag pins to use to demonstrate language proficiency or to show personal satisfaction in a specific location, according to the airline’s guidelines.
According to a report from United Airlines, “our standard coverage has long allowed flight attendants to use flag pins to identify specific language skills.” This is because “our customers who are more comfortable in a language other than English may hear who on our crew speaks their desired language. Flight attendants are also permitted to wear flag pins that represent their confidence in a place where they might have a particular link.
    A broader conversation
The incident brings up a larger discussion about whether political images are present at work. This is not the first time that airline employees ‘ selection of bolts has sparked controversy. The choice by some flights to help” Black Lives Matter” pins in 2020 caused a backlash from passengers and employees with law enforcement ties.

Another airlines, such as Spirit Airlines and Delta Air Lines, have also been criticized by StopAntisemitism for allowing Arab flag pins. In response to similar censure, Delta updated its uniform policy, successful July 15, to allow only US flag wires.
