Since Vice President Kamala Harris became the Democratic Party’s de post presidential candidate on July 21, journalists have had about 40 times to dream up queries for her.

That protracted run comes to an end Thursday evening when Harris, who will be flanked by her running mate, Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN), sits down for a CNN interview that airs at 9 p. m. EST. It will be Harris’s second extended question-and-answer program with the information press since her battle began.

The list of questions Harris may have about unavoidable now that more than a month has passed and some information processes have ended. Here are the top questions CNN anchor Dana Bash should ask the Democratic Party’s standard bearer given that the interview itself wo n’t be.

    Legislation flip-flops

The best policy issue, or questions, concerns a reckless of posts Harris took during her ill-fated 2020 presidential battle that her employees say she no longer holds.

According to her staff, Harris not long wants to end private health insurance, no longer supports an electric car authority, no longer supports necessary gun buybacks, no longer wants to ban drilling, and no longer supports a federal employment guarantee. Her campaign claims as of this week that she now backs funding for a border wall.

Harris herself has not provided any of this information. Thus, Bash may choose to ask Harris when she changed her mind, why she did it, and why she has n’t made any public remarks about her change of heart.

    President Joe Biden’s health

In the first half of 2024, Harris argued that Biden deserved to be in office until 2029, insisting that he was well-off. Harris was defending Biden‘s performance on CNN right away following the debate on June 27 that would ultimately send him out of the race.

” Yes, there was a slow start”, she acknowledged. ” But it was a strong finish. Joe Biden is fighting on behalf of the American people on substance, on policy, on performance. Joe Biden is extraordinarily strong, and that cannot be debated”.

Less than a month later, Biden was gone, and the party was rallying around Harris. If not, when she changed her mind and why? Ash may ask her if she still thinks Biden could withstand four more years in office. A related question is, if Biden should n’t be reelected, should he remain in office through next January?

    ‘ Border czar’ accusations

Over whether or not Harris ‘ role or non-role in the surge of illegal immigration that has occurred since Biden took office has sparked a fiery debate. Although it is not a formal title, republicans denigrate her as the “border czar,” which was used as shorthand by a number of news outlets to sum up the job that Biden gave her in March 2021.

Bash might ask Harris to clarify what her current position is on the border, why did illegal immigration rise after Biden became president, and why Harris now backs at least some funding for the construction of a border wall between the US and Mexico.

    Economic plans

Harris has spoken out more openly about the economy than about most other subjects. She has released plans for a federal “price gouging” ban, set a goal of building 3 million new homes, wants to create a$ 25, 000 down payment assistance program for first-time homebuyers, and supports a$ 6, 000 tax credit.

Any of these assertions could lead to questions for her. The Trump campaign claims Harris is trying to cover for her own role in fueling inflation by assisting in the passage of trillions of new government spending, as critics have dubbed the price gouging ban a new form of price control.

Bash might inquire about Harris ‘ position on the economy and how the price gouging ban will operate in practice to get the facts across.

    Israel and Gaza

The conflict in Gaza is one of the areas where Harris has made space between herself and Biden. Harris made more of a press release about the suffering in Gaza than Biden and Harris did on July 25 when they met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Harris pledged not to “look away in the face of these tragedies” and said” we cannot allow ourselves to be number to suffering, and I will not be silent”.

The message was clear, but it did not address how foreign policy might reflect that.

Bash could inquire of Harris about her plans to negotiate with Hamas and Netanyahu starting in the first few months of her campaign, how she would seek a ceasefire in Gaza if elected, and what prospects she see for the troubled strip.

What’s the answer to the question that might come up next is: How many interviews will you have between now and November, and when?
