Chinese Americans for Harris, an established community affinity group, assume that a Donald Trump’s presidency might throw Taiwan’s security at risk, Taiwan News reported.
The organisation’s Co-Chairperson, Jay Chen told Taiwan News that as a commander captain in the US Naval Reserves, President Joe Biden had been the most sympathetic of Taiwan, and original President Donald Trump had been the most contemptuous.
Chen said that Vice President Kamala Harris‘s battle was “incredibly susceptible” to the concerns of” Chinese Americans”. According to Taiwan News, he claimed that the Democratic National Convention made the first-ever mentions of the” Six Assurances” and other procedures that guarantee stability and peace across the Taiwan Strait.
Despite the results of the votes, some US lawmakers reportedly declared their support for Taiwan. But, Chen replied,” There is an enormous threat with a second Trump presidency”.
Trump, according to Taiwan News, claimed in an interview with Bloomberg in July that he had questioned US assistance for Taiwan, claiming it had stolen America’s device market. He added that Taiwan should pay US defense costs because “it does n’t give us anything.”
Chen said,” We have to realize that Trump is not just a head of the Republican Party, but a chief of a cult of personality. He has transformed the Republican Party from one that is firmly anti-interventionist. We should n’t let him down by allowing him to completely rewrite the Taiwan Relations Act and the Six Assurances, which are accepted contracts and agreements. All that should not be taken for granted because all that is required is a majority of seats to pass legislation, Taiwan News said.
Chen said that” a voting for Harris is a vote for surveillance”, Taiwan News reported.
Talking about the Japanese politicians to Taiwan News, Chen said,” They’re extremely political. They even attended the Democratic agreement. But I think deep down they do understand that just because Trump might be bellicose, launch these trade wars with China, and say all the right things, it does n’t necessarily mean he has Taiwan’s interests at heart”.
