An crisis room physician shared the images of a person who became seriously ill after eating undercooked pork on August 25 online after they became aware of a situation of parasite infection.
Dr Sam Ghali, an emergency room doctor at the University of Florida Health Jacksonville, posted a stunning photo on his X accounts, describing it as “one of the craziest CT scans I’ve always seen”. The check revealed that the patient’s legs were infected with a parasitic disease that had infected the muscles.
” I’m an ER doctor, and I use this account to tell people about medical crises”, said Dr Ghali on X. Using his system to educate the public, he invited followers to guess the examination, after revealing that the person had contracted’ Taenia postings’ or cysticercosis.
    What is Cysticercosis?
The bacon tapeworm causes a serious illness known as cysticercosis, where the larvae penetrate several cells, including the mind and muscles, frequently resulting in serious health issues. If the infection gets into the head or spinal cord, they may cause spasms, lumps under the skin, problems, or seizures. The disease is widely spread through contact with tapeworm-infected people faeces, contaminated food, water, and unclean hands. This
” Humans become sick with’ T. postings’ by ingesting tumors that can be found in overcooked pork”, Ghali explained. The larvae “penetrate the bowel wall, attack the bloodstream, and from there, may spread to virtually anywhere in the whole body”.
” The outlook for cysticercosis is generally fine, but unfortunately, some situations are dangerous. It’s estimated that around 50 million people worldwide are infected each time, resulting in approximately 50, 000 murders”, Ghali said. ” Treatment options include anti-parasitic therapy, steroids, anti-epileptics ( neurocysticercosis ), and surgical removal”.
The disease usually appears on CT scans as bright spots, often referred to as “rice rice calcifications”. Dr Ghali noted that within 5-12 days, the secreted tumors can grow into adult child larvae. ” So the moral of the story here is do your best to keep fresh, constantly wash your hands, and never, ever eat raw or undercooked pork”, he added.
