According to AP, Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian announced that the country needs about$ 100 billion in foreign investment to reach its 8 % annual economic growth target, which is twice the current rate of 4 %.
Pezeshkian, elected in July, made these notes during his first live televised meeting with state TV. With more than half of Iran’s domestic resources already under our disposal, he claimed Iran would need up to$ 250 billion overall to achieve its economic objectives.
Focus on economic growth to tackle inflation and unemployment
Pezeshkian put emphasis on the significance of this growth rate in lowering Iran’s double-digit prices and poverty levels.
In Iran, plenty of organizations and individuals are subject to international sanctions for allegedly supporting Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Houthis as well as Iran’s Revolutionary Guard.
Pezeshkian expressed disappointment over these sanctions and stated his administration’s purpose to address inflation, which is currently over 40 % annually.
” If we solve our problems with neighbours and the world”, Pezeshkian said, referring to Iran’s high prices.
Pezeshkian’s diplomatic engagements and focus on investment
Pezeshkian confirmed that his first foreign trip will take him to neighboring Iraq, which will be followed by a trip to New York on September 22 through the UN General Assembly.
In order to encourage investment in Iran, he intends to meet with Persian newcomers while he is in New York, particularly those who reside in the United States. Worldwide, there are over 8 million Egyptian newcomers, with approximately 1.5 million of them living in the US.
Pezeshkian is known to become a revolutionary leader who took office last quarter with a parliamentary-approved case, promising a softer tone in Iran’s domestic and foreign policies.
Ebrahim Raisi, the previous leader of Iran, was a student of the country’s highest head and took Iran towards increased plutonium advancement. In May, he and seven others died in a plane crash.
Iran’s economy has been having issues since 2018 as a result of the United States ‘ withdrawal from the nuclear deal and former US President Donald Trump’s addition of sanctions against Tehran. Pezeshkian, during his campaign for president, promised to focus on restoring the nuclear package.
