An American woman’s family visited the site to perform her final rituals after she cruelly vanished after falling into a crater in Kuala Lumpur.
Vijaya Lakshmi Gali, 48, fell into the 8-meter-deep hole on August 23. Due to safety concerns, a search function that started immediately following the incident was called off after nine weeks.
Gali’s father, brother, and girl were among those present to give their last respects on September 1. The community also dug dirt from the site before setting off for India the following day at 5 p.m. during the ceremony.
The community can be seen performing rituals like ringing bells and lighting crude light as part of Hindu customs in video shared on social media.
One person posted a comment on YouTube saying,” This may happen to any of us,” while others expressed condolences for the home. Since the horror and much research, which I followed with hope each day, was shut off… I’m no longer afraid to cross any sinkholes. To cruel”. Another added,” But terrible. I hope we do n’t forget that the street is now also someone’s resting place”.
Gali was a local of Andhra Pradesh. The officials were unable to find her body despite using a variety of methods, including sniffing dogs and dive units.
On August 31, Zaliha Mustafa, the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department ( Federal Territories ), announced that the search and rescue operation had been terminated.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim reassured the people that Kuala Lumpur is healthy for travelers the day before, on August 30 and that an investigation into the hole had been launched. He pointed out that a mechanical review had established the sinkhole’s origin and established the safety of the area. Anwar also urged the town council and the Prime Minister’s Department to get swift motion, stressing the importance of immediately addressing and carefully monitoring any areas at risk of holes.
