China’s top detective agency has issued a warning to Chinese pupils about being more cautious with access to sensitive data. The organization advised students to stay away from international organizations that may appear to be “handsome men and gorgeous women” and who could deceive them into doing so and potentially putting their feelings on display, compromising regional security.
On its government WeChat social media account, China’s government of state security issued a detailed warning that students could be manipulated in different ways to reveal sensitive information.
According to the government, foreign intelligence and espionage organizations have been deliberately pursuing young students, exploiting their curiosity and willingness to learn new things.
To gain the trust of students who have access to secret and delicate scientific research data, these foreigners frequently pose as academics, people of research organizations, or consultants. Under the pretext of market research or educational exchanges, they entice students to take high-paying part-time positions.
When kids show curiosity, the foreign intelligence companies offer so-called complimentary training and assistance through social media, phone, or video conferencing. In some cases, they even mask themselves as “handsome people and lovely women” who feign romantic curiosity, drawing younger students into a pit with false love.
The government could not be reached for more information or for specific information about the foreign companies involved in these pursuits. China’s crackdown on alleged threats to national surveillance has resulted in a number of warnings this year, which have revealed a number of instances of spying.
