Following the arrest of a former staffer to New York government Kathy Hochul, who was accused of secretly acting as an agent for the Chinese government, China’s minister in New York has been expelled, according to CNN.
Hochul stated on Tuesday that she had” conveyed ]her ] desire to have the consul general expelled” and was informed that the consul general is no longer a member of the New York mission.
After their imprisonment on Tuesday night, Linda Sun, an ex-aide to Hochul, and her father Chris Hu, both of whom were arrested in Brooklyn, entered a not-guilty plea to the US court in Brooklyn.
National prosecutors in Brooklyn allege that Sun obstructed discussions between Chinese government officials and officers while working in the state government and attempted to negotiate a visit to China for a senior New York state standard.
According to Reuters, Hu, who had business interests in China, is claimed that Taiwanese authorities representatives facilitated millions of dollars in dealings in profit.
Hochul has not been accused of any crime. According to a spokesperson for the government, her company terminated Sun in March 2023 upon discovering proof of wrongdoing, quickly reported Sun’s deeds to government, and has been cooperating with law enforcement throughout the research.
