There is no reasonable chance of a conviction for past Hollywood manufacturer Harvey Weinstein, according to American prosecutors, who publicly dropped the indecent assault charges against him. An alleged assault in London in August 1996 was the subject of an initial charge that the Crown Prosecution Service ( CPS) had authorized two years prior. The defendant, now in her 50s, had brought forth the case against Weinstein during the height of the# MeToo action.
The CPS has decided to end the judicial proceedings against Harvey Weinstein following a review of the evidence in this case. The CPS has a duty to keep all cases under ongoing evaluation, and we have determined that there is no longer a realistic idea of faith”, said Frank Ferguson, mind of the CPS ‘ Special Violence and Counter Terrorism Division, as quoted by Reuters. CPS even issued a declaration and stated,” We would often encourage any potential victims of sexual assault to come forward and report to officers, and we will sue wherever our lawful test is met, adding that all concerned parties had been informed of the selection.
The announcement comes in the wake of Weinstein’s legal fights in the US, where he was sentenced to 23 years in prison after being found guilty of rape and sexual abuse in 2020—a conviction that is thought to be important for the# MeToo activity. But, that conviction was overturned by the New York Court of Appeals in April 2024, citing harsh trial problems. After this time, a lawsuit is anticipated.
In Los Angeles, Weinstein was likewise found guilty of rape in 2022 and given a 16-year sentence. Weinstein has not yet served the California word despite having already been found guilty. He continues to deny all claims, maintaining that all sexual encounters were consensual.
