In response to an investigation by the US Attorney’s Office, national authorities on Wednesday raided the homes of at least four leading authorities in Mayor Eric Adams ‘ administration, including police inspector Edward Caban.
According to a CBS News statement citing sources, the investigation includes New York Police Department professionals who have been asked to freely sacrifice their digital products.
The NYPD confirmed that they knew about the investigation, but they did not specify which officers were being looked into. The office stated that it would work with national authorities. A spokesperson said,” We follow the rules. We work together and provide any requested data.
Early on Wednesday morning, FBI agents were involved in the activities.
Wright and Banks were among the officers whose phones were taken during the attacks. Wright shares a household with Schools Chancellor David Banks, Philip Banks ‘ brother.
Mayor Adams‘ reaction on the probe
Mayor Adams discussed the matter with CBS News New York’s Marcia Kramer on Thursday evening, showing a composed posture. He emphasized that his employees should follow the law and help with inquiries.
” You know, Marcia, I say over and over again, as a former member of law enforcement, I’m quite clear. We follow the rules. It would be unsuitable to interfere with the evaluation while it is taking place, Adams said, and we make sure to engage and provide any information that is necessary. ” I’m never aware of any wrongdoing, and I’m going to, once more, follow the rules,” the group said. And that’s what they have been doing, to my information”.
” So why do they stay targeting you and users of your management”? ” I mean, it’s like a regular, flow, flow, drip”, Kramer questioned.
” Those are questions I ca n’t answer. I’m going to… I am aware of what I’m going to do, and this information is required to demonstrate that I have often adhered to the rules. We’re going to provide that knowledge”, Adams responded. The causes of the attacks are unknown. No official justification for the raids has been provided, though insiders suggest that the investigation is unrelated to earlier inquiries into costly Turkish trip updates related to Adams ‘ 2021 campaign.
Adams ‘ gubernatorial campaign faces continued corruption studies, resulting in new subpoenas as late as July. In a probe into plan funding, the FBI targeted the house of Adams ‘ then-fundraiser Brianna Suggs in 2023.
What transpired following the assault?
Following the attacks, police inspector Caban canceled a common occasion on Thursday.
Schools president David Banks, however, remained focused on his jobs, overseeing the first day of classes for New York City public schools. ” Today is all about the kids of New York City, and that’s what we’re going to target on”, he remarked.
Sheena Wright and Philip Banks, who are they?
Sheena Wright, the Adams administration’s first deputy mayor, has been with the organization since 2022, first overstretched corporate initiatives before transitioning to the position in 2023. Additionally, Wright has experience as the CEO and president of the United Way of New York City and the Abyssinian Development Corporation.
Sheriff president Philip Banks, appointed in 2022, holds the public safety profile. His past positions include that of the NYPD’s chief of office.
