Barbara Kingsolver, the creator of the Pulitzer Prize, is expected to receive another renowned award. The National Book Foundation announced on Friday, September 5, that Kingsolver may receive the 2024 Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters, according to the People.
At the 75th National Book Awards Meeting on November 20 in New York City, she will receive this lifetime achievement award.
Kingsolver, 68, may become recognized for her decades of effective writing across many genres, including fiction, nonfiction, investigative journalism, writing, and research writing. ” Barbara Kingsolver’s excellent writing and sincerity, on and off the site, has inspired generations of writers and readers”, said David Steinberger, head of the National Book Foundation’s Board of Directors, in a press release.
Her published works include fiction pieces like Holding the Line: People in the Great Arizona Mine Strike as well as books like The Bean Trees and Unsheltered. Kingsolver’s 2023 Pulitzer Prize-winning book Demon Copperhead more solidified her position in American books.
In a statement about the honor, Kingsolver said,” It’s a remarkable and amazing feeling to be appreciated and honored this approach by my classmates.”
Kingsolver may accept the award from her agent, Sam Stoloff at the ceremony’s 75th National Book Awards meeting at Cipriani Wall Street.
