Reading about the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan, which began in April 2021 with Joe Biden’s news that the country was leaving by Sept. 11 and ended in heartbreaking tragedy when U.S. support people were blown up at Abbey Gate at the Kabul Airport on August 26 makes one feel nauseated.

When Biden had a choice to slow the withdrawal and keep the Afghan army, he made the wrong choice at every turn. Would the withdrawal’s outcome have changed significantly after two months? We’ll never know. All that can be certain about is that Biden’s quick, incompetent withdrawal led to the execution of thousands of Afghan collaborators.
