Voting on behalf of LGBTQ issues is a method for Christians to “live out the law to love our cousin,” according to the class.
This fall, a number of sessions at The Pacific School of Religion will demonstrate that Christians have a duty to support the LGBTQ community.
The” Queering the 2024 Vote” sessions are a project of the Protestant seminary’s Center for LGBTQ and Gender Studies in Religion, according to its website.
Starting Sept. 12, the virtual series will focus on the question:” During the recent 2024 US election season, how may we, as Gay people, communities, and LGBTQ-allies, get voices– and votes – of positive change for a nation in like desperate need of justice, hope, love, and compassion”?
The first studio,” Voting with Love”! does have the Rev. Michael Neuroth ( pictured ), director of the United Church of Christ’s Office of Public Policy and Advocacy.
According to the event description, voting is one of the ways Christians can “live out the commandment to love our neighbor ( Mark 12: 30-31 ), and ‘ speak up’ for those in need ( Proverbs 31: 8-9 )”.
Votes determine who sits in the state and decide what direction our shared destiny should go. Voting is, therefore, not just our political commitment, but even a spiritual act of love on behalf of the most vulnerable”, it states.
As the November election approaches, world is fraught with” cynicism, polarization, and extremism”, and Christians had “righteously avoid makes that seek to prevent, well, and dehumanize citizens”, according to the information.
Another factory,” Elections Are A Queer Thing”, did “examine the distinct spiritual care requires that LGBTQ+ parishioners are facing as the vote approaches”.
A third,” Sacred Response”, will “incorporate different rituals, meditations, and reflection exercises” to help LGBTQ individuals reflect on the election season.
The Pacific School of Religion in California describes itself as a progressive graduate and seminary. According to the institution’s website, many of its students are affiliated with the Protestant sects United Methodist Church and United Church of Christ.
