Apalachee High School in Georgia’s current shooting has exposed numerous missed warnings leading up to the drama, which raises serious questions about school security protocols.
Marcee Gray, mother of 14-year-old Colt Gray, made an urgent call to the school around 9: 50 am on the morning of the shooting, after receiving a distressing text from her son that read,” I’m sorry”.
She called the university and requested that they check on him.
In an interview with ABC News, she spoke about her talk with a college consultant. According to Gray, a tutor had previously expressed concerns about Colt’s use of recommendations to school shootings. Despite this, the answer to her notice was painfully limited.
According to Marcee Gray, the therapist responded,” Well, I wanted to let you know that one of Colt’s educators had sent me an email earlier this morning that said Colt had been making recommendations to school murders.”
In a later text message to her sister, Marcee Gray later told them,” I told them it was an extraordinary crisis and that they needed to move immediately and get Colt to check on him.” ” I do n’t understand what took them so long”.
There were other warning symptoms earlier that morning besides Gray’s disturbing call. Authorities discovered a visitor who had been identified as having warned of designed attacks on several schools, including Apalachee High, which had increased the day’s tension. However, this caution did not swift the level of instant action necessary to prevent the calamity.
The firing broke out about 30 days after Gray’s visit, when school resource officers mistakenly detained a student who had a similar name rather than Colt. This blundered code made it possible for Colt to carry out the attack, which left two teachers and two kids dead and nine others injured.
Marcee Gray claimed to have not spoken to her son since the shooting and that she had n’t spoken to him since.
She said,” I may tell him that I love him and that Jesus did love him long and ever.” ” And I may tell him that’ it’s not your fault.’ It’s certainly his problem”.
Colt Gray was detained after giving himself to a university security guard, and he is currently facing multiple charges, including four counts of felony death. In addition to these critical crimes, Colin Gray’s papa is accused of involuntary manslaughter and child abuse. Both are being held without bail and scheduled to show up in court on December 4.
The week string of erroneous warnings and the tardy answer highlight the urgent need for better safety and communication in schools to stop tragedies like these.
