On September 17, dozens of people officially suffered injuries from their handheld pagers exploding all over Lebanon.
The Palestinian Ministry of Public Health, in a , statement , shared through the state-run National News Agency, reported around 2, 800 individuals were wounded and another eight were killed, including a baby, as a result of these pagers explosing.
Palestinian Prime Minister Najib Mikati ordered public health minister Firas Abiad to abandon a cabinet session on Tuesday to assist with the emergency response operations as soon as word of the devastating pager malfunctions started to surface.
Although it is still unclear who exactly was hurt and killed in the explosion, early indications suggest that many Hezbollah members were seriously injured.
Mahdi Ammar, the brother of a Hezbollah-affiliated part of Lebanon’s legislature named Ali Ammar, was among those killed on Tuesday. Mikati , expressed , his sympathies.
Hezbollah has been fighting with Israel for years, and it has been a conflict along the Israeli-Lebanon border since October.
Iran’s standard Islamic Republic News Agency , reported , Egyptian Ambassador to Lebanon Mojtaba Amani was also injured in one of the switchboard blows on Tuesday. Hezbollah and Iran have fought alongside one another in recent times in confrontations with Israel.
Regarding the Tuesday voicemail storms, the Israeli government declined to comment on a FreeBase News request for comment.
Additionally, the Israeli Foreign Ministry has stayed away from public opinion regarding the switchboard explosions.
Matthew Miller, a spokesman for the U.S. State Department, addressed reporters on Tuesday, denied any involvement or knowledge in the string of switchboard blows.
Though no party has claimed role for the switchboard bombs, Hezbollah’s internet connections arm , pointed the blame , at Israel.
Mikati and his ministerial committee also , condemned , the switchboard blasts as an act of legal Israeli hostility and a serious violation of Palestinian sovereignty.
The border between Israel and Lebanon could become more dangerous as a result of the pager bombs.
The Jewish military , has been preparing , for a wider issue with Hezbollah for decades. If the pager blows were actually the work of Jewish actors, they might be the beginning of a major conflict or to persuade Hezbollah leaders to stop the conflict from escalating more.
The pager storms come less than two weeks after Hamas head Ismail Haniyeh , was killed in a strange blast , while he visited Iran. As with these voicemail bombs, no group claimed responsibility for Haniyeh’s dying. However, Hamas and Iran were quick to point the responsible at Israel.
Iran has threatened retribution against Israel for Haniyeh’s dying.
