SAVANNAH, Georgia — Standing just stones from the third-busiest port in the country, former President Donald Trump vowed on Tuesday to increase U. S. production substantially and, in turn, dramatically expand U. S. export if elected in November.

Following a seven-week break from the state, the Democratic nominee traveled to Georgia to appeal to southern citizens with a concept on work, finance, and income that favored both employers and workers.

Trump addressed the about 2,500 people gathering inside the Johnny Mercer Theater downtown,” We’re going to start a traditional buildup of American production muscle and does.” Savannah and Atlanta will be in the heart of the action, according to the report. We’re going to restore our manufacturing”. Trump outlined a multifaceted strategy that he claimed would boost the country’s economy and lure foreign companies to set up factories there as opposed to requiring the United States to buy goods from abroad at the current rate.

Trump claimed that by creating a second management, businesses would have to pay 15 % less in taxes than they currently do.

Through the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, or Trump tax cuts, Trump reduced the corporate tax rate from 35 % to 21 %.

” Under my schedule, American workers will no longer be worried about losing your jobs to foreign regions”, said Trump. ” Rather, foreign countries may be worried about losing their jobs to America”.

The plan was charm to Savannah and southern Georgia occupants, in particular. Savannah’s largest production company is Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation, whose more than 11, 000 workers build jets and aircraft products, according to the Savannah Chamber of Commerce.

Trump vowed to work with the governor directly. Following the first expansion under his administration, Brian Kemp (R-GA ) plans to expand the Port of Savannah a second time.

” This will happen so fast”, said Trump. ” With a world-class port and a world-class workforce, this city will soon become one of the premier export ports anywhere on Earth, tripling and quadrupling traffic”.

On Monday, Dec. 5, 2022, the Georgia Ports Authority announced it will start remodeling the docks at Ocean Terminal in January 2023 to handle two large container ships simultaneously. ” We will be able to build ships again. We will be able to construct aircraft at a much higher level once more, according to Trump. ” We will become the world leader in robotics”.

On Tuesday, Harris ‘ campaign hosted billionaire businessman Mark Cuban to challenge Trump’s plan.

” Trump’s idea of a 20 % across-the-board tax on all imported products is insane”, Cuban said in the podcast. That is a sales tax for the entire country. He wants to impose a tax on American consumers”.

The plan was defended by the Trump campaign as a way to significantly boost business and increase employment.

Sen. John Hickenlooper (D-CO ) criticized Trump’s strategy after the speech and claimed only Harris had a solid plan to deal with the economy.

” Kamala will build up our working class, invest in U. S. manufacturing, and deliver for American families”, Hickenlooper wrote in a post to X on Tuesday afternoon. ” Trump does n’t know a tariff is a tax on working Americans”.

In recent months, both the Trump campaign and Vice President Kamala Harris have been working to win over Georgian voters. Georgia is one of the six battleground states nationwide that has the potential to win the presidency.

Trump spoke Tuesday about the economy and jobs, while Harris and Trump have been to Savannah twice in the last month, focusing on abortion and reproductive rights.

After winning the state in 2016 but losing to Joe Biden in Georgia in 2020, Trump faces a difficult choice.
