According to California Governor Gavin Newsom, the act causes legal issues that must first be resolved abroad.

Democrat Governor Gavin Newsom just dealt a blow to California colleges that hoped to use illegal immigrants.

Gov. In a veto of policy, Newsom vetoed policy that would have allowed people institutions to employ illegal immigrants. According to the idea’s supporters, state institutions are exempt from federal law that forbids the getting of illegal immigrants, as The College Fix has previously reported.

This act, according to Governor Gov., “prohibites California public universities from disqualifying a scholar from work because they fail to provide evidence of federal employment authorization.” Newsom wrote in his veto information.

Newsom stated he was “unfortunately” no mark Assembly Bill 2586 due to legal responsibility problems.

    He stated:

It is crucial that the courts address the propriety of such a policy and the fascinating legal theory that underlie this legislation before proceeding because of the seriousness of the possible consequences of this costs, which include possible criminal and civil liability for state employees. For clarity may be sought when seeking declaratory relief in court, which is a choice the University of California has.

Hiroshi Motmura and Ahilan Arulanaltham, two University of California Los Angeles legal scientists, were pushing for the change in policy.

According to Arulanaltham,” there are now thousands of college students at state universities in California who never obtain the same academic employment opportunities as their peers only based on their immigration status,” such as “work study jobs, paid internships, student leadership positions in campus organizations,” and another paid opportunities.

In earlier remarks to The Fix, a previous Donald Trump administration official had criticized the plan.

The college system could face possible civil and criminal penalties, according to George Fishman, who spoke to The Fix.” If U officials go ahead and actually deliberately hire aliens who are not authorized to work under federal law, the officials involved could face potential criminal penalties,” he said. Prior to that, he advised Republicans in Congress and served as the country’s general counsel for the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services.

In a June 2023 post, he wrote that permitting State colleges to knowingly use and utilize unauthorized aliens trivializes the emigration laws, condones and encourages future violations, and ultimately harms American students and workers ‘ employment prospects and job prospects.
