'Gen Z Is reviving the values of 1971': Muhammad Yunus praises Bangladesh youth at UNGA
Chief Advisor to the time Bangladesh state, Muhammad Yunus

Muhammad Yunus, chief advisor to the interim government of Bangladesh, has praised the people of his country for the protests that led to the removal of Sheikh Hasina’s government. Speaking at the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on Friday, Yunus stressed on the role of Generation Z in reviving the values that defined Bangladesh’s birth in 1971.
In his address to the legislature, Yunus expressed hope that the country’s social will determine the” Bangladesh of the future.” He continued,” I stand in this legislature of governments, owing to a change that Bangladesh witnessed this July and August. The influence of the common people, especially our children, gave our nation the chance to reform many of our systems and institutions.
Yunus recalled the compromises made by young people, some of whom had died or suffered serious injuries. ” Our individuals, particularly children, gained us freedom from an autocratic, undemocratic plan with an excellent resolve”, he said.
The student-led motion, which immediately aimed to end discrimination but quickly grew into a global demand for justice, was the main reason for the protests, according to the chief advisor. He referred to the Hasina plan as “autocratic” and “undemocratic” and commended the children for their courage and determination in bringing about this shift.
Our Generation Z is forcing us to reevaluate and reinvent the beliefs that our individuals resisted in 1971, generations later. Yunus said noting Bangladesh’s freedom.
The demonstrations, which began as pupil presentations, evolved into a huge anti-government movement, eventually leading to the creation of an interim government. Sheikh Hasina fled the country on August 8 and Yunus took office, leaving behind accounts of unrest and violence, including strikes on majority communities.
The UN’s” Pact of the Future” was supported by Yunus in his closing address, saying that Bangladesh believes the event’s goal will provide a guiding framework for achieving our shared goals and rethinking cooperations for prosperity.
