Because agreements have reportedly stalled, the largest union representing terminal workers in the United States announced that a planned port attack would start on Tuesday.

The US East Coast and the Gulf of Mexico will be the targets of the terminal attack, which includes ships from Maine to Texas.

There are no scheduled negotiations between the International Longshoremen’s Association and the United States Maritime Alliance, which represents companies in the East Coast and Gulf Coast landward industries, scheduled for Sunday or before the midnight date on Tuesday, according to Reuters.

” United States Maritime Alliance … refuses to address a half-century of income subjugation”, the coalition said in a statement.

President Joe Biden stated on Sunday that he would not take any action to stop the strike, adding that he does n’t support the Taft-Hartley Act, which allows presidents to intervene in labor disputes if it threatens national security.

    ” It’s collective bargaining. I do n’t believe in Taft-Hartley”, he said.

Biden administration authorities had previously indicated they would never engage in mid-September when the union was announcing that “time was running up” to reach an agreement.

The union and the United States Maritime Alliance are at odds with one another over pay raises that the union demands and assurances that automated systems wo n’t be used to replace workers. The attack could result in shortages of chocolates, alcohol, some crops, and cars.

The next attack by the International Longshoremen’s Association was in 1977.
