An academic crisis is affecting America. In reality, it is so bad that even the communist Center for American Progress, started by far-left-wing billionaire George Soros, acknowledges , that” a large percentage of individuals land a high school diploma that is largely irrelevant. The file may claim that students are prepared for college, but in reality, they lack the necessary knowledge and skills.
If you are going to strike America’s bases, the place to start, as all demagogues and tyrants have discovered, is with the children. Because their minds are yet to master the skills to distinguish between fact and error, the youth are pliable and easily persuaded. They are often physically, rather than academically, driven, and ripe for change to communist reasons. Every authoritarian government, from the Soviet Union to Nazi Germany, has concentrated on attracting young people to help them succeed.
In my new , book , on the political and cultural consequences of the 1960s, I reflect on how the children of the 1960s were impacted by the dramatic changes in American training that took place that year, leaving liberals focused on advancing their individual mission. These dramatic changes even resulted in the American populace becoming more dumbed down, which is no longer qualified to distinguish between reality and error or to be active citizens.
But socialists, starting with John Dewey, a self-proclaimed liberal and “democratic socialist”, created our public education system with this specific outcome in mind. Since Dewey rejected religion and the existence of God, his new social order focused on developing a fresh, shared conscience in place of a traditional one, based on faith.
In a 1933 talk to the Teachers College at Columbia University, Dewey , said , learning may become de-emphasized and replaced with the development of behaviour as a way of accomplishing cultural change. He had  , add , in 1935,” Organized cultural planning… is now the only method of interpersonal action by which liberalism can understand its declared aims”.
In his 1916 , job,  , Democracy and Education, Dewey wrote that the education program he hoped to employ may be” the method through which the needed conversion may be accomplished”. And before that, in 1898, Dewey , stated , in his job” The Primary-Education Penchant” that the education program does not longer stress reading, writing, and arithmetic during the first part of a child’s knowledge but instead should focus on socializing and communism.
Dewey and his followers saw education as a sociological tool for a certain way of defining who they fit into society. Leftist activists saw public education as a means of treating kids more like test animals to experiment on than as actual people because of this mindset.
Because of the widespread cultural understanding we had up until the 1960s, these activists ‘ efforts moved slowly, but the radical changes of that decade enabled them to shift hard left and facilitate the transition from indoctrination to education.
In the 1960s, school administrators who were fully trained in Dewey’s vision introduced new teaching methods for math, reading, and writing, discarding those that had been successful for the first half of the 20th century and replacing them with ones that used children as pawns to advance leftist agendas.
It was tragic to put this emphasis on education rather than indoctrination. Without a proper education, many are now trapped in generational poverty. For instance,  , according , to the website , ProLiteracy. org, more than 48 million adults in the United States cannot read above the third-grade level.
The National Bureau of Economic Research , reports , that children whose parents have low literacy rates have a 72 percent chance of being at the lowest reading levels themselves — resulting in poor grades, behavioral problems, repeating grades, and even dropping out of school.
So we now have a populace of 48 million people who are stuck in a death spiral of generational poverty, where poorly educated Americans bege more poorly educated Americans, giving rise to a society that is easily persuaded to accept emotional rather than intellectual arguments.
All aspects of our society have been affected by Dewey’s and subsequent leftist efforts to transform American educational institutions into social laboratories rather than places of learning. In light of this, we as concerned Americans and parents must take education back from radical leftists and return it to its original purpose: to train and equip future generations to prosper as citizens and as individuals.
To do this, we must be involved in educational policy, starting at the local level. The takeover of education was a topic of conversation in the late 1960s because leaders were aware that real change occurs at that level. Leftists will fight ferociously to maintain their dominance over America’s children, which will make this difficult.
However, if we are to reverse this trend, we must intervene before our country encounters the unavoidable dead end that will result from an illiterate and underdeveloped populace that is easily persuaded to do the left’s will. To reorient ourselves and put ourselves back on a path that offers hope rather than despair, we must look back at the past to fully understand how we got to where we are.
