Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC ) has introduced legislation that will change the funding for the FEMA program to those who have been affected by Hurricane Helene and outlaw other federal funds.
In response to Hurricane Helene, the Republican bill seeks to divert government funding from emigration efforts to Hurricane Helene relief. The policy, among other things, may cancel FEMA’s Shelter and Services Program.
The federal government is too focused on saving hundreds of millions on a system that shelters illegal immigrants rather than helping our own people, according to Mace in a speech.
Nine Republicans co-sponsored the legislation, including Reps. Byron Donalds (R-FL ), Cory Mills (R-FL ), Bill Posey (R-FL ), Vern Buchanan (R-FL ), Nicholas Langworthy (R-NY), Ralph Norman (R-SC), Alexander Mooney (R-WV ), Nicole Malliotakis (R-NY ) and Lauren Boebert (R-CO ).

FEMA contributed$ 640 million to its Shelter and Services Program, which aims to assist workers, but the money are distinct from its crisis relief efforts. Donald Trump, the previous president, recently suggested that the government” stole” FEMA funds to distribute to illegal immigrants.
Trump said,” They stole the FEMA income, just like they stole it from a lender, so they could give it to their illegal immigrants that they wanted to own vote for them this time.”
The claim is false, according to FEMA.
No funds are being diverted from the demands for crisis response. The Disaster Relief Fund, a dedicated account for disaster efforts, is used to finance FEMA’s catastrophe response efforts and personal assistance, according to FEMA in a post. ” Disaster Relief Fund wealth has not been diverted to another, non-disaster related work”.
The Washington Examiner contacted Mace and Boebert’s headquarters to request additional information about the regulations, but they did not receive a reply.

The House Ways and Means Committee, the Workforce Committee, and the House Education and Means Committee have been given authority to consider the act.
It’s unlikely that the costs will be voted on before a new Congress is appointed because this session of Congress is taking place but close to the election.
