Ugh. If Kamala Harris thought Bret Baier was strong, rush’ til she meets Putin.
During the meeting on Fox , News’s” Unique Report”, the Harris-Walz promotion found itself mired in a wonderfully humorous situation: Their overall marketing campaign is predicated on the conceit that they’re No Trump. Whether it’s Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, or Tim Walz, the Democrats ‘ , raison d’etre , is that Trump is an evil Orange Madman who’ll destroy democracy,  , and ( checks mirror ) they’re Not Trump.
In other words, they’re never asking the British citizens to vote FOR the Democrats. They’re begging them to voting AGAINST the Republicans.
From a marketing standpoint, there’s nothing wrong with that approach. Numerous items can be distinguished by their comparisons. When it’s done well,” assessment strategies” you ring files: Consider Apple’s” I’m a Mac”! and” I’m a ( dorky ) P. C”. advertisements?
Do you want to be the cool guy in slacks and nice hair ( Mac ), or do you want to be that yutz in a unkempt brown suit? Apple gave audiences a binary choice. It’s gotta be one or the other.
But when you live by contrast, you die by contrast.
During yesterday’s Fox News interview with Bret Baier and Kamala Harris, just two people were on the screen. And Donald Trump was not one of them.

” Not Trump” was n’t in the building.
Kamala Harris and Bret Baier were the only two. Nobody elsewhere. Viewers could n’t help but compare the two.
Bret Baier has a soft voice that resembles a Cabbage Patch Kid who made a hope large. He’s a darling! A great person. Could n’t imagine a nicer, more genteel guy.
And Kamala Harris?
It was n’t just that she was rude, unsteady and off-putting. And it was n’t that she’s absolutely incapable , of improvising answers — when she’s not 100 % reciting a script, she flounders about like a fish out of water.  ,
Nor was it her predilection for continuously chanting,” Let me be apparent”! before beginning with the least obvious gobbledygook impossible.
It’s that she came across as the lesser.
That’s the responsibility of running a comparison strategy: When you ask viewers to examine you to something or someone otherwise, they did. You can actually” train” an audience to think in terms of comparisons, and it’ll become part of your brand identity. However, that’s NOT where the similarities may come to an end.  ,
You ca n’t turn that switch on and off. Brand identities do n’t work that way.
Kamala Harris and Bret Baier were being compared and contrasting by consumers today. And I do n’t care if you’re a liberal youngster, a conservative oldster, or something in between: There’s NO scenario whatsoever where Kamala Harris was more likable than Baier!  ,

The people ‘ lingering lesson will be the contrast between the two. Advantage: Baier … and it ai n’t even close.
Now, I do n’t want to overstate it: This was NOT a game-changer. The race’s dynamics wo n’t be fundamentally altered by this. But from the MAGA perspective, it did n’t have to. Momentum is already on the Republican’s side, and the interview certainly wo n’t slow that down.  ,
More likely than not, it’ll moderately speed it up.
