Israel’s and Hamas ‘ and Hezbollah‘s commitments to preserve fighting in Gaza and Lebanon stifled hopes that the death of Palestinian militant key Yahya Sinwar does put an end to more than a year of escalating conflict in West Asia. Israel’s arch-foe and the militants ‘ key supporter Iran also said Sinwar’s suicide had just power” the soul of resistance”.
Hamas commander Sinwar, a genius of the Oct 7, 2023, assault that triggered the Gaza warfare, was killed by Israeli troops in the Israeli area on Wednesday.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described his dying as a breakthrough but pledged to carry on the conflict, which has recently widened from Hamas’s occupation of Gaza to an invasion and Hezbollah’s occupation of Lebanon. ” The conflict, my dear people, is not yet over”, Netanyahu told Israelis late on Thursday, saying battle would continue until hostages held by Hamas are released. ” We have before us a wonderful opportunity to stop the plane of evil”, he added, referring to Iran and its violent friends across the region, even in Syria, Iraq and Yemen.
Hamas claimed that the only prerequisite for captives ‘ launch was a block of hostilities in Gaza, an Israeli departure, and the launch of its prisoners. ” The death of our brother, the chief Yahya Sinwar… will just increase the strength and commitment of Hamas and our weight”, it said, confirming his demise in battle.
Hezbollah, a militant group in Lebanon, added that it has developed new weapons in the last few weeks and is moving into a new stage of its offensive against Israeli forces. Early on Friday, a statement from the organization’s operations area revealed that Hezbollah’s fighters had the first time ever used brand-new precision-guided missiles and violent drones.
That speech from the opposing factions contrasted with European officials, including US President Joe Biden, who said Sinwar’s dying offered a chance for discussions.
On Friday, Biden described Sinwar’s passing as” a moment of righteousness” and said he hoped it would provide” an opportunity to find a path to peace- a better prospect in Gaza without Hamas.” In a statement on Thursday, Biden claimed he had informed Netanyahu that secretary of state Antony Blinken would travel to Israel to explore securing Gaza and plans for governing and rebuilding the country after the war. Israel claimed its troops had killed Sinwar. ” Now is the time to walk on”, Biden said, adding that he had congratulated the Jewish PM on Sinwar’s shooting. Yet, the US president added that while he thought there was a chance of achieving a peace in Lebanon, such efforts would be more difficult in Gaza. Both had agreed it was a “opportunity to improve the launch of the hostages,” and they would work toward that, according to a declaration from Netanyahu’s office regarding Biden’s call.
Sinwar had been rebuffed, according to Matthew Miller, a spokeswoman for the US State Department. ” Can’t predict that that means whoever replaces ( Sinwar ) will agree to a ceasefire, but it does remove what has been in recent months the chief obstacle to getting one”, he said. Sinwar’s natural son as the mind of Hamas ‘ political business would be his assistant Khalil al-Hayya, based in Qatar. Al-Hayya is a student of slain Ismail Haniyeh, Sinwar’s president.
