In Part One of this investigation into Kamala Harris ‘ political campaign’s fairly manipulating online systems, it was revealed that the campaign is running a Discord server that instructs swarms of individuals to apply their social media accounts to seemingly drive election propaganda.
Making pro-Kamala Harris information on social media appear more famous than they actually are is a tactic, which is frequently done in violation of the social media platform Terms of Service. In more severe instances, they are encouraging people to circumvent election regulations and engage in “astroturfing” strategies to spread false information that they believe will help them get the upcoming vote.
Yesterday’s report documented how the Harris-Walz campaign has seen great success in manipulating Reddit’s algorithm, but that is n’t the only social media site they’re manipulating. Elon Musk’s X, perhaps the most recognizable platform for social media, has also been targeted in the plan. One particular goal, according to a user of the Harris-Walz campaign Discord server, is to get campaign volunteers to swarm the site and “block]community notes ] we do n’t like”.
Due to Musk’s order of Twitter, the site’s administration was known for arbitrarily removing data and often banning users using a double standard that severely disapproved of conventional opinion. Musk, a big free speech activist, sought to center a more natural way to deal with false comments, and the” Community Notes” method was born.
Those who had signed up for the program may suggest notes been added to tweets that demonstrate that the information was inaccurate, inaccurate, or needed significant context. Users can then study the proposed notes and decide whether they are correct or necessary, and if enough favorable votes are cast, they will be forever added to the article.
But, Harris-Walz formal accounts have consistently provided dishonest presentations about the Trump-Vance campaign throughout the campaign and have been outstanding conduits for propaganda. The Harris party’s X records have been so bad that even CNN fact check Daniel Dale, who has been very severe with Trump for a while, wrote an entire row highlighting the mistakes and deception.
Despite this, the campaign’s campaign’s most recent and false tweets have hardly any Community Notes attached to them. The Harris campaign is likely to be at fault for this discrepancy by directing volunteers to vote down Community Notes on its Discord server even when those notes accurately state that the campaign is being deceptive.
In the following example, Timothy Durigan, an employee of the Democratic National Committee, urges campaign volunteers to reject a Community Note that accurately stated that the Kamala campaign was dising Trump’s remark. The tweet claimed Trump referred to Americans who do n’t support him as “dangerous people. Trump was actually addressing the American government officials who leaked information about Israel’s war plans:
In the” twitter-community-notes” channel found on the Harris-Walz Discord, paid Democrat staffers are also writing dubious Community Notes on X to undermine GOP and Trump messaging. Then they appoint volunteers to give them a positive rating.
Unsurprisingly, these notes are often filled with half-truths, misleading information, or lies, such as explaining how Joe Biden’s son’s brain tumor must have been due to his service in Iraq.
The Harris-Walz server even has a” Twitter ( X ) Community Notes Training” module, which explains how users can quickly increase the” Rating Impact” of their Community Notes, enabling them to write their own Community Notes with a high enough status. They also describe “problems” with Community Notes, such as Joe Biden being tagged in “inaccurate Community Notes”, and how users can rate them negatively.
Since X’s Community Notes upvoting system is designed to mitigate political bias far better than Reddit’s, the Harris-Walz campaign’s attempt to manipulate Community Notes on X has n’t been as successful.
One Harris-Walz Discord user voiced his dissatisfaction with Community Notes ‘ ( CNs ) ‘ biased bias mitigation system, which was put in place to stop user manipulation:
Although their attempts to abuse Community Notes on X were largely ineffective, it still constitutes a flagrant violation of X’s Terms of Service, which forbid artificial information amplifying.
Other Astroturfing Operations
The Harris-Walz Discord server provides access to an app called” Reach” which gives its users access to a database of “entertaining” Harris-Walz campaign content.
Additionally, X has developed” Radar,” a feature that enables users to view post volumes about a particular subject. I discovered evidence of hundreds of astroturfing profiles for the Harris campaign on X using messaging guidance from three Reach posts. One of the images was searched similarly on Google, suggesting a wider reach. While the X data is complete, the Google data is likely incomplete, which is why it is likely larger. This operation’s scale is growing exponentially.
Users can easily repost memes, videos, and other content that supports the ideals of the Harris-Walz campaign using the Reach app.
While topics relating to current events routinely trend on Reddit and X, other platforms, such as TikTok and Instagram, gear themselves towards entertaining content. To target these platforms, the campaign is also using Reach. Unfortunately for them, the content they provide resembles your liberal aunt’s Facebook timeline in some ways.
This is fundamentally repulsive to those who have spent years learning the subtleties of meme culture online. It embodies the unauthenticity of the modern internet, which has reportedly displaced the “old net” in recent years.
Their response to the now-infamous Man Enough to Vote for Harris advertisement speaks for itself:
They also enjoy actively promoting it during a football game by using unrelated hashtags that were trending at the time. Not only do they love flamboyant actors who pretend to be American “men” but they also enjoy actively promoting it during a game. This is yet another shady tactic used to bump up social media posts inauthentically, shamelessly employed by official Harris-Walz volunteers.
However, the Harris campaign’s only option right now would be to spread fake content and deceptive messages.  ,
