Taiwan is on high call as Typhoon Kong-rey techniques and threatens to completely shut down the beach.
As per the news agency Reuters, all cities and counties declared a day off, closing schools, practices, and financial industry. In anticipation of what is expected to be the biggest surprise to strike Taiwan in 30 years, hundreds of airlines have been canceled, and thousands of residents have been evacuated.
Typhoon Kong-rey is forecast to make landfall on Thursday around 2: 00 pm ( local time ) along Taiwan’s eastern coast, with meteorologists indicating that it could hit as a Category 4 hurricane, packing winds of up to 132 mph ( approximately 250 kph ).
Although the storm has slightly weakened, it remains highly powerful, classified by Taiwan’s Central Weather Administration ( CWA ) as a” strong typhoon”, the highest category for storms impacting the island.
Taiwanese Premier Cho Jung-tai warned on social media that the typhoon’s rapid movement would bring intense winds and heavy rainfall, with predictions of up to 1.2 metres ( 3.9 feet ) of rain in eastern regions.
According to CWA forecaster Gene Huang, after making land, Kong-rey is expected to diminish as it moves north towards the Taiwan Strait.
Due to the imminent danger, the CWA has even warned people to avoid rocky and coastal areas.
To help in healing work, the Chinese government has mobilised 36, 000 military officers. About 1, 300 individuals from high-risk locations have already been evacuated.
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co ( TSMC), a leading global supplier to businesses like Apple and Nvidia, started conducting regular typhoon preparations at all of its factories and construction sites to make sure that business would n’t experience significant damage.
Travel has taken a major hit, with the travel government reporting the withdrawal of 298 international flights, all private flights, and 139 ferry services. Although the high-speed rail remains operational, it is running a reduced company.
The Chinese government has banned climbers from entering rocky places and closed gardens in eastern scenic locations as the storm approaches.
Social media has been rifling with people ‘ concern over the arrival of such a powerful storms in the late summer, when typhoons typically occur between May and October.
As it progresses, Kong-rey is also anticipated to have an impact on China’s Fujian province, and scientists are concerned that the wind may continue to exhibit erratic behavior as it approaches Taiwan’s coast.
If Kong-rey strikes as a Category 4 storms, it would be the strongest storms to effect Taiwan this later in the year since Typhoon Krosa in 2007, which caused widespread destruction, power outages, and major disruption to travel networks.
