Google admitted on Tuesday that it is again more engaged in election meddling, this time by preventing citizens from finding out where to cast their ballots for former president Donald Trump on Election Day.
People who searched” Where can I vote for Trump” were shown a list of” Top stories” and, further down, a link to “donaldjtrump.com“, a link to” USA. gov” about how to voting, and several other sites with voting information.
However, those who searched for” Where may I vote for Harris”? voters were immediately directed to a link provided by Democracy Works and the Voting Information Initiative that allows them to provide their addresses and get directed to the polling place closest to them. One X consumer attributed the variation in effects to the state of Texas being called Harris. But customers who entered non-Harris, Texas, addresses were also provided details about their nearest voting area.
Google acknowledged the issue in a statement, saying the issue was fixed and attributing their blatant election interference to an oopsie:” The’ where to vote’ panel is triggering for some specific searches]because ] Harris is also the name of a county in TX]Texas ]”.
” Fix is coming”, Google said. Not surprisingly, “very few people really look for voting sites this way.”
Prior to now, Google clients were prompted to visit Democracy Works for information on how to register to vote.
Democracy Works costs itself as “non-partisan” but is funded by “prominent left-of-center personal foundations, such as the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, the Democracy Fund, and the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation“, according to Influence Watch.
Google’s election discrimination has been obvious for weeks, with the search engine big suppressing information about Trump’s second assassination attempt.
The major complete outcomes for Google searches for “assassination attempt on t-” and “assassination effort on the Pope” were found less than three weeks after Trump was almost killed in Butler, Pennsylvania. 10 complete results were displayed in an additional “assassination attempt on” query, none of which made reference to Trump.
Similar issues with YouTube, which is owned by Google, late prevented people from searching for the whole discussion between podcaster Joe Rogan and Trump.
