No connection to Jean-Claude, the French psychologist Marcel van Dam created and used exit polls for the 1967 French legislative elections. Later that year, CBS News used exit poll in Kentucky’s presidential contest. The idea quickly gained popularity and became the standard procedure for federal media companies. At least for a little while.

However, it was always rife with disagreement and bogus conclusions.
In 1989, Democrat Doug Wilder was elected governor of Virginia, becoming the country’s earliest dark government since the Reconstruction period. Enter poll showed him easily ahead of his Democratic opponent, Marshall Coleman, cruising to an easy 10-point success.
But the exit polling was n’t accurate.  , Not even close!
When all the votes were actually counted, Wilder had 50.1 % and Coleman 49.8 %. The return ballot was off by 10 items!
In the 2000 presidential election, Exit voting started to lose popularity, even though there were also many people in the GOP-friendly Florida north ballot. According to renowned analyst John Lott, analytical failures have been published that demonstrate how calling Florida for Gore almost cost Bush both the state and the presidency.
Other nations, including France, Germany, Italy, India, and the United Kingdom have criminalized leave voting, fearing it might excessively control the political results. But in America, of training, the First Amendment gives our press full pale to do all the exit polling its soul desires. ( But they pinky-swear they’ll be careful and not put their fingers on the scale. )

At 5 p. m. now, the very first exit poll for the 2024 national vote came in. Here are the first results:
- A larger proportion of Trump voters in 2024 think pregnancy may be legitimate than it is in 2020.
- 35 % said “democracy” was their most important matter, which good bodes well for Harris.  ,
- 31 % cited the economy, which likely helps Trump.
- Abortion came in at 14 %, followed by immigration ( 11 % ).
Nevertheless, the biggest problems for Harris followers were, in order: politics, contraception, the economy, foreign policy, and multiculturalism. For Trump voters, a whopping 50 % named the market as the most important topic, followed by emigration, politics, abortion, and foreign policy.
A MAGA success should be enough if the market becomes the main concern for both independents and undecideds as well.
Roughly 20 % of female voters ranked abortion as their top issue, just 8 % of men agreed. This is yet another sign that there are racial tensions among the prospects.
The market seems to be the Achilles ‘ foot for Democrats: About 66 % of electors said the business is bad, just a second claimed the business was good or outstanding.
And if the economy is n’t their Achilles ‘ heel, it’s likely to be the right-track, wrong-track issue: About 75 % of voters are unhappy with the direction of our country ( 29 % described themselves as outright angry ). Although Harris used language like “turn the page” and “new generation of leadership” to differentiate herself from Biden, when voters do n’t like our nation’s direction, it almost always hurts the incumbent party.

Interestingly, a president’s personal attributes seem to have dropped in significance: Really 30 % said the candidate’s ability to be a head was most important. Twenty-five percentage said it was his/her skill to be an agent of change. Only 21 % of respondents rated their judgment, while 19 % rated their empathy for others.
I’m surprised that Harris citizens cared more about politics than abortion. If ( when? ) If Harris loses, their determination to illustrate democracy and play the” Trump is Hitler” cards may come back to haunt them, especially if the issue failed to inspire enough liberals to cast ballots.  ,
Of program, the major media is still the popular media, and ideologues and gonna brainwash. The most significant obtaining from their exit poll was left in NBC News ‘ final paragraph. Obviously, it’s an exceptionally good omen for Trump:  ,
The preliminary exit polls also found that just 41 % of voters approved of President Joe Biden’s job performance, while 59 % disapproved.  , That’s markedly lower than Trump’s job rating ( 50 % ) when he lost his re-election bid in 2020, which underscores that Harris needs voters to view her differently from Biden. ]emphasis added]
