Karachi people staged protests on Tuesday after they were forced to go through normal power outages for 12 hours and water supply shortages, according to The Express Tribune.
Additionally, they made a point of pointing out how drastically the region’s water source has been impacted by scheduled and unscheduled load-shedding.
The Water Corporation has received numerous complaints about the power outage plan, but the activists claim that no significant steps have been taken to address the water supply’s problems.
As part of the monthly adjustment for August 2024, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority ( NEPRA ) has increased electricity rates for Karachi by Rs 0.40 per unit.
NEPRA confirmed in a warning that consumers ‘ costs for January 2025, to been collected by K-Electric, will reflect the additional costs. K-Electric had earlier requested a reduction in the power tariffs of Rs 0.16 per unit as a result of fuel cost adjustments (FCA ) for September 2024.
Police were stationed at the opposition site to control the situation and help the impacted commuters. In response to the ongoing energy disruptions, the Battagram Trade Union declared a total shutter-down hit and sit-in starting Tuesday.
Additionally, the coalition announced its intention to hold off on paying electricity bills until the issue is resolved and the power supply schedule is adjusted.
